The Vortex Theatre Presents: Oleanna By David Mamet

Directed by Marty Epstein

On Friday, August 17, 2018, the Vortex Theatre opens Oleanna by David Mamet, directed by Marty Epstein.
The two-person play premiered in 1992. Oleanna is about the power struggle between university professor and one of his female students, who accuses him of sexual exploitation and, by doing so, spoils his chances of being accorded tenure. The play’s title, taken from a folk song, refers to a 19th-century escapist vision of utopia.
The Vortex production features Zoey Reese (Once on This Island) and, by special arrangement with Actors’ Equity, Bob Jesser.
Director Epstein has directed over forty plays at the Vortex, the Adobe Theatre (A Crack in the Wall, You Can’t Take It With You) and for West End Productions (Abigail’s Party).  “For me, this play is a realistic depiction of sexual exploitation and its affect on all the parties to it,” he said. “Is it misunderstandings? A misperception? The ‘he said, she said’ nature of this play reflects the #MeToo movement and its victims. It will leave you wondering, who was right and who was wrong?”
